A good egg
File under: a good idea?? (and when you say it out loud you have to end the question in a high-pitched tone of super-inquisitive-ness)
Today I was in my local Trader Joe's picking up a couple of last minute things for dinner tonight.
And I noticed a new product on the shelves.
A new product in the refrigerated shelves. Near the milk. And next to the yogurt.
It was a bag of hard-cooked, peeled eggs. Maybe a dozen or so. In a bag. A sealed, plastic, semi-clear bag.
And my first thought was: great idea! I love eggs. I love hard-boiled eggs. Who doesn't love a quick shot of protein? Add a little salt and you are good to go.
But then I pictured myself taking the bag.
And opening up the bag (of peeled, hard-boiled eggs, that sort of sat in some cloudy water).
And I decided it wasn't such a good idea. The smell and all.
But I still love eggs.

why i have any comment on this is absurd. and proves i can pretty much blab on about anything.
yesterday, i cooked a dozen eggs. because i thought, a bag o' eggs. fast food. perfect.
i forgot about them. i turned them brown. i cooked all of the water out and they sat for who knows how long cooking in the pan, in their shells.
i still stuck them in the zip lock with some salt.
what about the pickle in the brine?
Christ. that's the thing....in theory, an egg is a great idea. Simple. Healthy. but they smell. and they smell bad. and if you happen to be finished with your hard boiled egg when someone walks into your kitchen or office or where ever, there's this lingering smell that doesn't immediately make one think: oh, you must have just eaten an egg. Instead, the thought goes to: oh, poor soul with the gas.
Eggs: simple, healthy but ultimately, kinda gross.
agree.
and if you cook them, people who walk into your home, don't think., 'mmmm. what's that smell?' they think ' ew. what. is that smell??"
one of my disgusting faves is pickled eggs. i kid you not. they smell like ass but taste so good.
Pickled eggs and a cold beer ala the Wheel or Bullwinkles. Or Louise's...didn't Louise's have pickled eggs?!
I too, must admit, would not refuse a pickled egg if offered to me.
